Promoting mental wellbeing and overcoming loneliness for better aged care

Melbourne

Conference | 13-14 November 2018 View Full Program Here

Over the past several years, there have been great strides made with respect to awareness and initiatives on mental health and wellbeing. However, this progress has been largely focused on youth and adolescents. With 1 in 7 Australians now aged 65 and over, and approximately 57% of residents in residential aged care diagnosed with a mental health or behavioural condition, promoting mental health and overcoming loneliness for Australians in aged care has taken on new urgency.

The Tackling Aged Care Mental Health conference will identify and present solutions to overcome these issues, including evaluating the 2018-19 Federal Budget allocation for aged care mental health; how aged care providers can partner with mental health organisations to deliver superior outcomes; the role of technological-based interventions in promoting mental wellbeing and training and development for carers and staff.

Hear from leading experts in aged care and mental health as they deliver their insights on how best to overcome these challenges to tackle mental illness and mitigate loneliness.

  • Hear from Leading Age Services Australia how they are supporting age services across residential care, home care and retirement living.

  • Identify strategies to improve the quality of life for those with dementia in aged care with Scalabrini Village and Bupa Aged Care.

  • Find out how to forge partnerships between mental health organisations and aged care providers to create better mental health outcomes for senior Australians.
